About the Theory Test
The UK theory test is split into two parts that you take on the same day: a multiple-choice section and a hazard perception section. You must pass both parts on the same day to pass overall. The test is computer-based and taken at an official DVSA test centre.
The Two Parts
Multiple Choice
- 50 questions in 57 minutes
- Pass mark: 43 out of 50
- Topics: highway code, road signs, safety, eco driving
- Study with the Official DVSA Theory Test Kit app
Hazard Perception
- 14 video clips (1 developing hazard each; 1 clip has 2)
- Pass mark: 44 out of 75
- Click as soon as you spot a developing hazard
- Do not click repeatedly — this scores zero

- You need your provisional driving licence number
- Take photo ID and your provisional licence to the test centre
